Slightly political, always feminist and sometimes insightful ravings from small town, Ontario

To me, rape culture, very simply, is not the two boys in Steubenville who committed the crime, it was the fifty people who saw it happening and did nothing. That’s what rape culture is. It’s the coach who winked and said it was okay and that everything would be taken care of. It was the original judge who had to be recused because he was connected to the football program. It was the police who didn’t want to investigate that it was going to happen. It was the parents, it was the women and men who have been threatening this young women for daring to come forward and say something. And honestly, it’s an entire culture. It’s our culture. It’s what happens to our culture when we let it sit and don’t actively challenge violence against women.
